R7668: Impact and amelioration of sediment and agro-chemical pollution on Caribbean coastal waters (Jointly with the University of York) and R8364 Promoting an holistic approach to agrochemical management in the Caribbean
This project (R7668) began in 2000 with a 3-year research project into the impacts of agro-chemical pollution on Caribbean Coastal waters and options for improving the management of agro-chemicals. This project facilitated the development of a strategy for improved agro-chemical use and management in the wider Caribbean for improved public and environmental health, endorsed by the Coordinating Group of Pesticide Control Boards of the Caribbean (CGPC). A follow on project (R8364) named CAMP - the Caribbean Agrochemical Management Project - began in 2004 to promote the uptake of the strategy through communication and advocacy. This project has taken the strategy forward through a Regional Plan of Action within the CGPC and development of National Plans of Action in Jamaica and St Lucia.
